Briefing note on the Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on copyright in the Digital Single Market - COM(2016)593 - RDA Europe 3

DOI

Text and Data Mining (TDM) provides considerable benefits for the European economy and research. If the use of TDM is not fostered and supported in Europe, there is a huge risk of losing the brightest minds and economic benefits. Immaterial rights, including copyright, protect the original works of authorship, not the content and information within it. Copyright does not protect ideas, concepts, systems, or methods of doing something. Now, the proposed DSM directive is creating regulation not used anywhere else in the world. This goes against the efforts towards creating a Digital Single Market.
