C-band Polarimetric Scatterometer data of first-year sea ice for Arctic-ICE 2012

The C-band scatterometer was mounted at 2.6m height and scans were made at 5° intervals over the 20-65° radar incidence angle range, and an azimuthal width of 40° was used, though settings were occasionally modified to maintain the radar beam within a homogeneous cover type (e.g. a melt pond or bare ice patch). Scanning sessions at a site typically comprised 2 or more scans. In total, 307 time-stamped scans were made during 57 spatially or temporally unique scanning sessions over the period 06-June to 24-June 2012. External calibration was carried out by using a trihedral corner reflector with a known radar cross-section, and used to create calibrated backscatter data files that include signal-to-noise estimates for user quality assessments.
