Dutch-Asiatic shipping, 1602-1795

This dataset contains outward-bound and homeward-bound voyages of Dutch ships between the Netherlands East Indies and the Republic of the United Netherlands from 1602 until 1795. Apart from dates of departure and arrival, the dataset also includes the dates on which the Cape of Good Hope was passed. The information in the dataset is not identical to the data presented in the source publication Dutch-Asiatic Shipping (J.R. Bruijn, F.S. Gaastra, I. Schöffer: Dutch-Asiatic Shipping in the 17th and 18th Centuries / R.G.P. no. 165; Den Haag 1987). The purpose of the dataset was to gain insight in the Dutch Republic's history of expansion by investigating ships' logs to the Netherlands East Indies.
