Monitoring of polar bears in east Greenland

Telemetry and satellite images are used to estimate the abundance of polar bears in eastern Greenland. Tagging of bears occurred in 2007 and 2008. The hypothesis to be tested is that sea ice reduction reduces reproduction and survival of polar bears. A report will be published in 2011. The project is funded in connection with oil impact assessment, the Kalaallit Nunaat Marine Seismic (KANUMAS) project.
